Based on internal corporate documents, the Merchants of Poison report offers a rare look inside the science denial and disinformation tactics Monsanto used to defend its profits from glyphosate, an herbicide linked to cancer.

In this webinar, report author Stacy Malkan of U.S. Right to Know shares five core tactics the company and other pesticide firms used to keep their toxic products unregulated: these include manipulating the scientific record, co-opting academic institutions and professors, mobilizing a wide array of third-party allies who appear independent, attacks on scientists and journalists and weaponizing the web.

Contributors Anna Lappé, formerly of Real Food Media, and Kendra Klein, PhD, senior scientist at Friends of the Earth, discuss the high stakes of pesticide industry disinformation and its impact on health, biodiversity and the climate.

Authors discuss the report “Merchants of Poison: How Monsanto Sold the World on a Toxic Pesticide.
